Jon has all round experience of new build and refurbishment working in local authority, large commercial, small private practice and co-operative settings.

He brings together imaginative, rigorous thinking and sound practical experience of building.

Particular experience and expertise in timber design and engineering, low energy, sustainable design and construction and community led projects.

Project Management of self-help projects from inception, through funding, organization, design, scheduling of materials, cost control, programming and site management.

Previous Employment

Jon Broome Architects from 2000-2018.  Private practice working on Passivhaus homes for housing associations and private clients. Voted Sustainable Social Housing Design Consultancy of the year 2010. Strategic consultant to RUSS a CLT developing a sustainable neighbourhood in Lewisham since its inception in 2012.

Founding Director of Architype in the 90’s working largely in the public sector specializing in low energy design, timber frame construction, participatory design and sustainable building.

Collaboration with Florian Beigel on the award winning New Half Moon Theatre.

Joint architect with Walter Segal on Lewisham self-build projects in the 80’s.

Commercial work in the Caribbean including on the New Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and a new international airport in Tobago.

Partnership with Simon Conder. Winners of RIBA Open competition for Stradbroke Rural Workshops, Suffolk. Civic Trust Commendation & British Steel Award 1986.

Worked on council housing in Lewisham in the 70’s.
